Microsoft article “How to make your computer run faster: 6 tips to increase PC speed” provides good tips to increase the PC performance

The steps outlined in this article will help you to further increase the performance.

1. Change the wallpapers:

Most of us will have some nice pictures, or cool 3D pictures as wallpapers. Did you know? They infact slow down the system performance. My first suggestion is to have a basic plain and simple wallpaper. I recommend using the Microsoft delivered wallpapers.

If you are using Windows 7, you may also try turninig Off the Aero Glass. If your computer isn’t fast enough with Aero turned on, switch it off and turn to Windows 7 Basic Interface.

2. Use CCleaner:

This is an awesome application that I like and recommend to every one. Windows has lots of files that can be deleted such as Prefetch, temporary files, flash files (which can’t be deleted directly).

You can clear all these files with a single click using the CCleaner application. You can download it from
Piriform website.

3. Indexing Options:

Windows 7, by default keeps indexing files and folders. These are meant to quickly get search results, but often cause slow performance issues. It is recommended to minimize these settings, if you don’t use Search very frequently. Go to Control Panel -> Indexing -> Indexing Options to make these modifications.

4. Prevent Unwanted Programs from Startup:

When you turn on your computer, several programs will also be turn on. You can use the in-built application Microsoft Configuration Utility (MSCONFIG). Below are the steps:

  • Click Start and choose Run
  • Type MSConfig and click OK.
  • Select Startup tab.
  • Uncheck the programs that you don’t want to start up, like MS Office, chat programs, etc., Make sure you don’t uncheck the ones that you don’t know.

5. Turn Off Unused Windows Features

There are lots of default features that you may never use. some standard features of Windows – like games, Messenger etc., They can be turned off as well. Check out the features that you wish to disable and enjoy the ones that you need.

These tips will surely increase the performance of your PC.

Internet Explorer 10 can seamlessly “go back in time” and render websites as if it was one of its predecessors, such as IE5, IE7, IE8, IE9.

Not that this is anything new when it comes down to major IE iterations. Microsoft remains committed to supporting legacy websites with new versions of IE just as it still supports legacy applications with fresh Windows releases.

Of course, while the IE team has always acted on a mantra of not breaking the web with new IE releases, but packing multiple rendering modes into the browser is not only about legacy sites.

Even sites tailored specifically for IE9 will work seamlessly in IE10, even though their developers might take a while to adapt the projects.

The first Platform Preview of Internet Explorer 10 was releases at MIX11 just weeks after IE9 RTW downloads went to the public.
